Tallow has so many benefits. I render my own tallow, but it can often be purchased from the butcher at some local shops. Beef tallow is a traditional fat that has seen a resurgence in popularity due to its many nutritional, culinary, and skincare benefits. It’s rendered from the fat of cows and, when sourced from grass-fed animals, it can be a valuable addition to both your kitchen and natural wellness routines. Rich in vitamins and fatty acids, it closely resembles the natural oils found in human skin, making it an exceptional moisturizer and healing agent.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup Beef Tallow
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup Coconut Oil
Your favorite essential oils (optional and measure to your preferred strength)
Instructions:
- Measure all 3 ingredients into a glass or metal heat-safe bowl or double boiler.
- Then, grab a saucepan and add about a cup of water to it, setting it over medium-high heat. Place your bowl right on top of the saucepan—this makes a simple double boiler setup so you can gently melt the ingredients without overheating them.
- Let everything melt down slowly, stirring occasionally.
- Once it’s fully melted and turned into liquid, take the bowl off the heat and set it aside to cool. You’ll want to wait until it thickens up a bit and becomes semi-solid.
- When it’s reached that soft-set stage, go ahead and add your lavender essential oil. Then, using a hand or stand mixer, whip the mixture until it turns light, fluffy, and creamy—this part only takes up to 5 minutes.
- Once it’s nice and whipped, spoon your balm into a clean jar or container. It’s ready to use on dry skin, rough hands, tired feet, or anywhere you need some deep, natural hydration. Enjoy the soothing, nourishing goodness!
