This versatile recipe is a true kitchen staple! It can be used as a topping for breakfast dishes, a delicious complement to desserts, or even as a flavorful filling. The choice of apples plays a big role in the final taste, so I recommend using your favorites. I personally love the tartness of Granny Smith apples, but I also enjoy switching it up with a sweeter variety depending on the dish. One of my favorite ways to enjoy this is over my German Pancakes, finished with a drizzle of fresh maple syrup. It’s a must-try—you won’t be disappointed!
Ingredients:
4 large Apples of your choice (Gala or Granny Smith are great)
1 1/2 cups cold water
1/4 cup of Cornstarch
3/4 cups of Sugar
1/2 tsp. Ceylon Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. Celtic Salt
1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice
Instructions:
- Clean, peel, core, and chop the 4 apples into 1/2-inch chunks.
- In a medium saucepan, combine water and cornstarch and whisk to make a slurry.
- Add the sugar, cinnamon, salt, and lemon juice over medium heat stirring frequently to prevent clumping.
- Once the mix reaches a bubbly boil, cook for 3-5 minutes or until thickened.
- Lower heat to a simmer. Add the chopped apple pieces to the saucepan and continue to simmer until the apples are tender. (Approximately 10-12 minutes)
